H.S. Contino Inspiration is everywhere! It’s really about taking the time to pay attention and jot down ideas (before you can forget them). I often get ideas from particularly vivid dreams, song lyrics, or even over-hearing an intriguing bit of a conversation.

Other times story ideas have come from unexpected life adventures. For example, I once returned to my car after attending another author’s book talk at a local library to discover a half eaten hamburger on my windshield. Weird! How did it get there? Who left it there? Why? Was it a human or could it have been a bird that scavenged it from a trash can and underestimated its weight?

So many options and story possibilities!
H.S. Contino While there are plenty of great book worlds out there, I would actually like to visit a fictional TV world. I’m a huge Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis fan. Every time I rewatch an episode of the show, I want to climb through my television screen and join the characters.

I’ve heard that there are fan fiction novels out there that are set in the SG world, but I haven’t read them yet. I’m worried that they won’t be as good as the real shows.

I also recently learned that there are comic books set in the Stargate universe. Might be worth checking out!
H.S. Contino “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir
H.S. Contino Take the plunge! I meet a lot of people that are so full of worries that they never actually sit down and write. They worry about things like what to write or if there idea is good enough or original enough. I say, follow your passion. Write about what interests you and your enthusiasm for the topic will be visible on the page. Stop worrying and just do it. Sit down in front of your computer and start typing out words. They don't have to be perfect (we have rough drafts for a reason!); the important part is start getting the words onto the page. There'll be plenty of time to edit and revise your draft later.
H.S. Contino I tend to bounce between projects a lot. At the moment I'm working on a science fiction novel and an Armageddon type short story.
H.S. Contino The project I'm currently working on came to me in a dream. It started with just a handful of really vivid scenes. The following day I jotted down as much of the dream as I could remember. I continued building the story from there.
