What is the name of the second book in your series and when was it published? Is it about Mya or about all the girls?
D. Bryant Simmons Hi Sandra. The second book is Blue Sky. The e-book came out Mother's Day and the paperback will be out October 6th. It is about the three oldest girls—their relationships with each other and Pecan, and their first loves.

What gives you fulfillment in writing?
D. Bryant Simmons There's probably 3 points in the writing process that I find fulfilling and exciting. There's the strong beginning. Let me explain. I tend to LOVE prologues. My prologues are like short stories. They're gut-wrenching and tender and pretty much a snapshot of what you can expect throughout the novel. Once I've got that nailed, the creative juices really start flowing. Then when I've figured out exactly how to get from the midpoint to the conclusion I feel a huge sense of relief. I start to relax and trust my characters. The last point is when I hand over the story to the readers. Readers find me on Twitter and sometimes they really just want to say it was good, other times they want to converse...and that I LOVE!

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
D. Bryant Simmons Well, How to Knock a Bravebird from Her Perch was inspired by my great grandmother's life.

How do you get inspired to write?
D. Bryant Simmons I do my best writing when I'm pissed off about something which is why I write about the underdogs fighting against injustice.

What are you currently working on?
D. Bryant Simmons Sequels! I'm putting the final touches on How to Kill a Caged Bird and I'm on the first draft of How to Survive a Songbird's Fury. I'm also writing a few short stories and novellas. I've got a lot on my plate.

D. Bryant Simmons For aspiring authors? Never stop writing. Find your voice then write like hell.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
D. Bryant Simmons I accept that at times I'll feel creative and at other times I won't. Some times I'll just read what I've already written to get back in the mood or I'll switch to another story.
