Amanda T. Martin My advice to anyone who wants to be a writer is just do it. The only thing standing between the person who says 'I wish I could write a novel' and 'woohoo I finished my first book' is sitting down and writing 80,000 words. It's that simple. I used to think I didn't have the imagination to write, but we all understand stories, we all live them every day. Freeing your mind to tap into that web of stories is the first step. Freewriting, writing prompts, evening classes, blogging, online forums: however you tap into that world of words, just do it and do it as often as you can. How do you write a novel? One word at a time.
Amanda T. Martin The best thing about being a writer is creating worlds with only words. I take 26 letters and create characters who live and breathe and refuse to do what I tell them.
Stories help us make sense of the world and I feel privileged to be a part of that. Of course the endless coffee and cake and being able to work in my pyjamas is good too.
Amanda T. Martin Class Act grew out of many different inspirations. I love Georgette Heyer, so partly it's my tribute to her romance stories, with a gentler, less physical, form of love story than is perhaps usual at the moment. Also I am an artist and have always yearned to own my own gallery, so there are definitely elements of that in Rebecca's tale.
Amanda T. Martin I am currently working on extending Dragon Wraiths, turning the last 8 chapters into a full novel before writing book three. But I will take a break over the summer when the children are home from school
Amanda T. Martin I usually shift writer's block by walking the dog. The combination of fresh air, green fields, bubbling brook and walking pace frees up blockages in my mind.
