When I was a kid I heard some punk rock guy (maybe the guy from Blondie or the Boomtown Rats?) answer this question like this: "give it up, we don't need the competition." It seems less charming now that I've typed out than when I heard it on the radio, though. Real advice is: read a lot and think carefully about what it is that makes you like the stuff you like; also, when things aren't working out, stop doing it and do something else for awhile.

Hey David -- it is currently being developed by Miguel Arteta, who is great and who I'm sure will do a fantastic job on it if it ever does get made. You can't count on anything with Hollywood, but you can hope and pray.

Being able to say "writer" instead of "um, oh, not too much" or "I kind of have this band" when asked what I "do" is pretty nice. Of course, you can always just say it anyway and avoid a lot of misery. Should have thought this through a little better...
