Writing the words "The End" and moving on to the next project. And also holding a real analog book I wrote in my hands. Being able to hand a book to a reader and say the words, "I wrote this."

Read a lot. Don't expect to write War & Peace. Get comfortable with revision. Try to write for your own happiness and not to please the market. Writing is exhilarating, so learn to enjoy it.

I'm working on two novels concurrently. The first is a roman a clef about the NY art world in the 1980s. The second is the last volume of The Captain Blackpool Trilogy, describing Blackpool's quest for The Jade Lion. I also continue to file regular travel stories in the 'Volante' section at www.lucire.com.

You must understand that all writers are different. In my case, when I'm writing fiction I tell myself the story over and over again, until I feel I know in detail what happens next. I imagine settings, voices, gestures, costumes. I always want to write. My obstacle is time, and when I see an open space, of almost any length -could be from 5 minutes to a whole week, I make the time. At the moment I sit down I am inspired.
