My best advice for aspiring writers is to start writing and don't worry about the small details at first. You can always go back and edit (and you will), but go with the flow and let the words pour out. The story will find itself and work its way through your head and the story may very well go in a different direction than planned, but that's part of the fun. I've discovered that the story knows itself better than I do, so give it a chance to wander, explore and find itself. Then you can fine tune the details later. The old cliche rings true - don't worry about the small stuff.
