Shay Ray Stevens Telling people they should be nice to you or you will put them in a book. ;)
Shay Ray Stevens The idea for The Me You See came from lots of different places; my having spent a lot of time in the theater growing up, my constant wonder about who people really are when we're not watching, and my need to write something about the dark side of life. I'm a little obsessed with the question, "What if things aren't what they seem?" This book tackled all those things for me.
Shay Ray Stevens My newest novel, The Me You See, comes out October 14th. It's a psychological thriller/mystery about a shooting in a small town.

Next up are two more PT/mysteries, The Visit and Brother, to be released in 2015.
Shay Ray Stevens 1. Stop referring to yourself as an "aspiring writer". You're either writing or you're not. There's no aspiring to it.

2. If you feel the need to write, do it! But realize that once you publish a book, you've entered a business. The challenge lies in finding the balance between the artsy soul of writing and the business that gets your work out there.

3. Writing comes from life. Don't hyper-focus so much on your writing that you forget to live. Nothing good ever came from staring at a screen 24 hours a day.
Shay Ray Stevens I get up and do something else. A chance of scenery or perspective always helps me to find more words. The longer you sit and struggle with the blinking cursor, the harder it is to find something to say.
