I use two methods. I open to a new page in my notebook and recreate the remaining outline from memory without going through old notes. This sometimes unhinges some blocks. If that doesn't work, I verbalize out loud how the plot would go if the heroes weren't there to stop the villain. Finally, if all else fails, I go run for 5 miles. Usually about mile 2 or 3 the ideas start flowing again.

I'm currently working on a fantasy novel called _Myth and Incarnation_. It's set before _When Dragons Die_ and features the journey of three people as they learn they might be the avatars of the Archdragons. They have to deal with their own skepticism, and wonder about whether they're deluding themselves as they try to uncover their true purpose. This book features dragons of epic proportions, and culminates in the final showdown with the Black Dragon.
