What is a weird piece of research you had to do while writing this book?

J.J. Falconer A strange bit of research I did while writing Blood & Merrow involved the firearms of the era. I inadvertently discovered the Colt Model 1855, which was a percussion cap-and-ball revolving shotgun with a 5 shot revolving cylinder. It was prone to chain firing which could badly injure the firer's hand. As soon as I started reading about it, I knew I had to include it in the book.
