My inspiration comes from a lifetime of lethargy, pain and depression. Every experience I have, from buying a cappuccino to living in Mexico City to lying in bed, barely able to open my eyes - there is inspiration in everything. You just have to be open and be able to see what other people miss. There is a fine line between a creative writer/artist and a person with schizophrenia. Both have trouble screening out detail. But the writer/artist can sublimate and use those details to create.

Being a writer is really hard, grueling work! You can never really rest because if an idea pops up, you have to write it down in that moment. However, writing lets you experience moments you might not ever actually have, other than in a poem, a story, an essay. And when you're really in the groove, you become your characters which can be fun and maybe a little scary. Also, you have to be widely read in order to write well. And there's a lot of good writing out there!

You start a column in the local papers entitled, "Writer's Block" that has to be in every week. Really! I'll get around to posting some of those on blogspot..... when I find the box they're in.

I was working on a piece about becoming rational/atheistic, having gone through a Master's degree before I really remembered and started to muse about Richard Dawkins' book, "The Blind Watchmaker", read in my senior year of college. After that, it was all uphill, an easy uphill. Even the writing of this book was easy. I had so much material by then. But then it happened. I got raped. The dude killed himself, and my partner threw me out.... and deleted the entire manuscript, including a couple of essays for the Yoga Association of Alberta. and hundreds of photos. That was two years ago. I'm just now starting again. While the subject matter is the same, the material from whence it comes is different. I am different.
