Elisabeth Cohen I love reading about other people's daily schedules. When I started writing this book, I was working at a very stressful job, my kids were young, and I was really struggling to cope with the demands and time pressure. I was fascinated reading about the daily lives of high-powered women. Their articles and books made it seem like it was totally possible to get everything done. Of course, they were also blithe about having to wake up at four a.m. every day and log in again every night after the kids were in bed. I kept wondering: don't people like that ever get sick? Tired? Have days when the kids melt down and they start to doubt themselves? Do they ever think about cashing it all out and moving to Hawaii? I tried to imagine someone who thrives on intensity and is weirdly well-suited to a life that's all about productivity. I kept asking myself: what fuels her ambition? That was the beginning of my main character, Shelley.
