The book is loosely based on my McCarter ancestors who came over to America from Scotland in 1750. I have researched their story for years and feel as if I have walked with them. It has been hard to find out why Moses McCarter relocated at one time away from the bulk of McCarters in Scotland and to this day I have yet to find out why so I imagined why and wrote it down!

There are many things that inspire me to write, music is one of them. I can hear a certain piece and write a whole story off of it. When I travel to places I imagine all sorts of stories, especially if it is a historical area. Many times when I hear true life stories it gives me ideas and I usually write poetry or short stories from those experiences.

I am working on a three-volume series called American Dream. It centers around the Revolutionary time period and tells the story of the McCarter family; Scottish tight-knit twin brothers and their kin who escape a cruel hand that was dealt them in England. They do find new land and opportunities in the Carolinas, but they have to fight for it. Volume one, Shadows of the Ancient Wood, is now on Kindle and will be available in paperback in August 2016.

I walk away and jump into another mode. Sometimes that means watching a good movie, cleaning house, or simply going for a drive. If I am writing a period piece I may watch a movie that takes place during that era so as to motivate or inspire me, or I listen to music that relates to that time.
