R.W.W. Greene I also had an idea and an outline for a sequel to that. It's the start of the revolution on Gaul and the kid Adem is riding with at the end of the book has been using the workshop to make weapons. So Adem must flee the planet with his Earth historian pal and go back into space. His family has been under legal siege by the Traders because of their monopoly on FTL services so they head back to Earth to see if they can find more tech.

But, again, for the publishers, it's all about the Benjamins. It's easy for them to get brand exhaustion (the R.W.W. Greene brand) and say, 'nope.'
R.W.W. Greene Charles, thanks for reading. As it said in the ER Acknowledgements, the series was supposed to be a trilogy, with an installment in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Alas, sales for Mercury Rising were not good enough for book three, and I had to scrap an already-written book two (where Brooklyn lost a leg and pissed off all his friends, Om had a human boyfriend, and etc.) I regret the loss of that book, and it's possible I brought too much of it into Earth Retrograde. in my defense, there wasn't a lot of time. I had the option of having Book Two come out through Angry Robot and self-publishing Book Three, but I didn't want to go that route. Perhaps I chose poorly.

I had some ideas for more "25 to Life," including a same-world story about the folks on the colony ship, but it's all about what I can get through the gate. I have a third of two 'same-worlds' written and an outline for a sequel wherein Julie's kids get hold of Juniper's keys and try to rescue an online friend who's dying slowly in a city cube. The manuscripts are all hanging out in a Google folder with my three starts from this year (half a book each) and the three books my agent has already.

Publishing is not an easy game, and I've often said it's even harder to stay published than to get published. We will see what the future holds.

Thanks again,
Rob

R.W.W. Greene Sorry for the delay in my reply; I've been on the road.

No relation, although if he ever needs adopting...

Balin Books is a good store, and it's pretty supportive of local authors. I appreciate that he keeps me in stock!

I, too, wish scads of book lovers showed up at my readings and purchased ALL

R.W.W. Greene If you've not read Earth Retrograde, I don't want to give too much away about that. The true second book would have done more with the idea, but Brooklyn loses memories the longer he's out of commission. This is a useful feature for some parties.
He doesn't regenerate, either. In the original book two, he lost a leg.
Thanks for recommending the simulations. I'll have a good time fooling around with those!
I appreciate you reaching out with questions!

R.W.W. Greene Charles! Thanks for your question. Sadly, after the first book was published and failed to make scads of money, the publisher decided three books were not in the cards. I re-wrote Book Two to end the story, and First Planets became a duology.
R.W.W. Greene I'm currently working on an alt-history trilogy. Call it 'woke pulp.'
R.W.W. Greene The hours? No. The pay? No.

Probably it's the ability to buy a cup of coffee with the proceeds of my imagination.
R.W.W. Greene The Elder Gods listened and returned Donald Trump to the White House. The screams started immediately.
R.W.W. Greene I'd go to the Star Trek universe. They seem to have figured out most of the problems I'm worried about.

I'd bring back a Federation Runabout, because that's really all the spaceship I need.
R.W.W. Greene The shower. Yes, really the shower.
R.W.W. Greene I read a lot. Thank a lot. Inspiration, I think, is about making connections. If your head is always full of stuff, the connections just draw themselves, Just take your head to the keyboard and hang on!
R.W.W. Greene You, not the cat, are the boss of the writing chair.
R.W.W. Greene I don't get it often enough to have a strategy. There are days--weeks even--when I don't feel like writing, but I've seldom gone to the idea well and come up empty. Most times the trick is just to keep going. It's a lot easier to do that, in my opinion, than to restart.
