I don't stress when I have it. I just do something else. Taking the pressure off frees me up to think while I'm cooking/cleaning/driving around. It comes back in the end. Also, rubbish stories in book or TV can help. I think to myself - I can do better than that... ;-)

Oh, tricky! I think I felt it answered some questions left unanswered from By My Side (the previous book). Also it dealt with forgiving yourself, which I think a lot of people find hard to do. If you haven't read By My Side, it might be better to read that first. A few things relate to the previous book, although it can be read on its own. :-)

Hi Balu, The Songbird and The Soldier came from wanting to try something different for me as no one had been interested in my writing till then. When I was younger, I wrote to a soldier in the Kuwait conflict, so I had a small idea of the letters that went to and fro and the problem with time lag. After that I set about watching every documentary ever made on Afghanistan and took it from there. :-)

I love living other people's lives and falling in love with other heroes without ever leaving the safety of my own mind. My husband prefers it this way too! ;-)

By My Side was inspired by a dressing down I received from a consultant surgeon while I was a junior doctor. That incident, however, held little romantic charm!
