Warren C. Easley The idea for No Witness (Winner of the Spotted Owl Award for best mystery written by a writer in the greater Northwest, including Canada): What if a crime is committed in the migrant community that works the vineyards in the Red Hills of Oregon but the community is afraid to cooperate with the police because of the threat of deportation. Could my protagonist, Cal Claxton, be an effective bridge between the migrants and the cops?
Warren C. Easley I just finished Book 9 in the series, Fatal Flaw. It publishes in April, 2023. I have 50,000 words done on Book 10, working title Deadly Redemption. Cal returns to his roots in L.A. and discovers that all is not as it seemed when he left 15 years earlier following the suicide of his wife. So far the book is practically writing itself! I love it when that happens...
Warren C. Easley There's a momentum associated with the craft of writing. When you feel blocked or uninspired, keep writing anyway, even if it seems like crap. This will help you get back on track, and there will be time enough to edit the rough parts. The story is in there dying to come out! Long walks are also good for me when the next plot point isn't coming. Make the walk (or run) long enough that your monkey mind quiets down before you start to think about the next step...And most important of all in my view, finish your project! Gain the experience of the entire process from inception to final edits. If it doesn't measure up, put it in a desk drawer and move on!
