Kelly Van Hull The short answer? Everything. The long answer? The creative process with drawing the story up is really exciting, but I also love the editing process because I believe that's when the magic comes out and you can really improve the writing and place the words exactly where they belong. But the best of the best? When that first proof comes in the mail and I can hold it in my hand.
Kelly Van Hull Read a lot of well crafted books, the ones you inspire to write some day too and also read a lot on the subject of writing. I also take classes whenever I can. Not only do you learn a lot, it is incredibly inspiring.
Kelly Van Hull My next project (hopefully) unless my imagination runs away somewhere else is the companion novel for Tent City. It takes place 60 years later and is done in third person, for which Tent City and Red River were first person. It follows Savannah Savage and she lives in almost a "reservation" type situation and she's ready to leave the "rez." Animals play a big role in her life, she's just not sure how big.
Kelly Van Hull Everything inspires me, but strangely I get a lot of ideas for dystopian from reading the newspaper on lazy Sunday afternoons.
Kelly Van Hull My most recent work is a novella called Spectrum and is written under the pen name Kay Kadinger and the idea initially came from a dream. Ben's character was based on someone I know (I'm not telling :) and there is a line "at about 200 miles per hour" that came directly from that dream.
