You are about to be banished to a desert island for a year and you can take the books of one author, the music of one artist or band, and one type of food with you. What would your choices be?
J. Steven Young How did I miss this? To answer... I would take the books of Janet Evanovich, because I need to laugh all alone on the island. For music I would choose Enya to sooth my frantic need for rescue. Food, I would take spam, not because I like it, but because it has a long shelf life and it goes well with coconuts...

As a technical guy by day...do you approach writing in the same structured manner?
J. Steven Young I start out that way! But eventually, I reorder my thoughts and reorganize. I like to outline at least my major plot points, by chapter by chapter summary of Inciting incident, conflict, and resolution. But after today speaking with some international Award-winning best-selling authors on their approach, I am going to stop using a three-act separation in my outlines (unless I'm writing a screenplay).
