Take the craft of writing seriously. LEARN IT. Constantly aspire to get better at it. ALWAYS hire an editor, a proofreader, a cover designer. Get your work critiqued by peers. Take the criticism as a challenge rather than an offense. If you don't approach your work seriously, why should anyone else?

To me, when writer's block happens, it's a sign that my subconscious tank is empty, so I usually get away from writing completely and do other things until I get "zinged". The zing usually happens at around 3:00 AM when I'm sleeping. I'll wake like I was just hit by lightning with the words itching to be written.
