Anna Sullivan Writer's block, I think, is about fear. Once you understand that, it's easier to sit at the keyboard and just put down whatever comes into your mind. Before you know it, you're back on track. I always remind myself that rejection isn't the worst thing I can experience-and it helps that I've been rejected enough times that it only stings for a minute before I shrug it off.

For me, it's a tie between starting a book and finishing a book. There's the excitement at the beginning, the thrill of not knowing where your characters are going to take you. And there's the insanely huge satisfaction of finishing a book. The feeling is like nothing else in the world.
Anna Sullivan Write every day, even if you only have fifteen minutes, and you're just writing a character sketch or noodling on a plot. The more you write, the sooner you'll understand where your voice is taking you and what you enjoy. And, like any other pursuite, the more you practice the better you'll be.
Anna Sullivan I always have several projects in progress. I just came off deadline for the Windfall Island novels, and while I'm waiting to hear from my agent and editor on the projects I've pitched, I'll work on all of them a little. Right now, there's a dark comedy set in the west, a treasure hunt set on the east coast, and two projects that involve ghosts.
Anna Sullivan Just about everything sparks my imagination. Any time my mind is idle, it seems to fill with a plot of some sort. Some of my favorite ideas have come to me in the checkout line at the supermarket.
Anna Sullivan There was a time I dabbled with historicals, but the response I got from editors and agents I queried was that I sounded to contemporary. So, finally I decided they might beonto something and tried my hand at contemporary. My first story sold 4 days! I've been writing contemporary romance/romantic suspense ever since. The Windfall Island novels came from one of those historical plots I never wrote. As a closet historical writer, I can't tell you how happy it makes me to be able to incorporate one love with the other!
