Maybe the answer would be Vincent D'Agosta and Aloyssus Pendergast, the couple created by writers Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The reason? While Pendergast is the brilliant analytic open-minded investigator, D'Agosta is his ideal ready-for-action counterpart (even being moderately smart).
