Deborah Rine Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet because I'm a terrible romantic.
Deborah Rine I am currently working on a totally different type of book. FACE BLIND and THE LAKE are mysteries. The new book is a novel called RAW GUILT. During a blizzard a young woman runs over and kills a small child. The accident is not her fault but she experiences terrific pain and guilt as does the mother of the little girl. How these two women deal with their emotions is the crux of the novel.
Deborah Rine Plumb the depths of your psyche. Then sit down and write.
Deborah Rine The very best thing about being a writer is the ability to escape your actual world and slip into an imaginary realm that is rich with possibility.
Deborah Rine I go back and read a few chapters of the current book and then I get in the groove.
Deborah Rine Every morning I walk my dogs and think about the section of the book I am going to write that day. I outline it in my mind and try to visualize the scene and the actions of my characters. When I go home I begin to write. Of course, sometimes, when I sit at the computer my mind goes haywire and dreams up something entirely different!
Deborah Rine I get many of my ideas from the Science Section of the New York Times. It's a mine field rich in information. The Weather Channel had a series about Water Wars that got me thinking about the possibility of "stealing" water from Lake Michigan as well as the ethical implications. As for heroin addiction, it is a real problem among youth in cities and suburbs alike.
