Lisa A. Sniderman With every muscle screaming and fighting, Diablo pulled himself out of the oozing, pitch black tar, unsure where the tar stopped and he began, coughed some oxygen into his lungs, and painfully squinted, scanning the charred, unrecognizable remains that littered the landscape for his brother, and feeling gratitude for the tar in his nose that prevented him from deeply inhaling putrid, rotting flesh that permeated the air. As the sole survivor, his life was just about to get interesting.
Lisa A. Sniderman For what I do, creating full musicals and recording them on audio books, I love all of it-from conceiving an idea to conjuring characters and songs, to collaborating with my producer on all things musical, to casting and working with voice over actors, to performing as Aoede-the best part is that I can continually grow as an artist-try things outside my comfort zone and challenge myself. Also, making connections with others through my audiobooks and plays is amazing.
Lisa A. Sniderman I just completed my latest full length musical on audiobook called "Do You Believe In Magic?" I conceived this project in Dec 2013 and released it Aug 2015. I adapted the audiobook to a stage play for musical theater and produced a staged reading May 2015 in San Francisco. I'm now seeking opportunities to do full production in 2016 in the Bay Area and nationwide. I also am promoting the audiobook and starting to work on ideas for the next one!
Lisa A. Sniderman Once I have an idea or a theme, my muse starts to flow-I often brainstorm on paper first, which leads to more areas to explore and more inspiration I suppose! If I am not inspired, I might watch movies, listen to or start playing music, read, or travel to explore ideas. Since I create musicals, often times the characters tell me what kind of music they need to sing... When inspiration hasn't strike, it usually just tells me I haven't found the thing that I most need to write about yet!
Lisa A. Sniderman This is the 3rd musical that centers around Aoede the Muse (the main protagonist's) adventures in the magical Kingdom of Wonderhaven. I have always been fascinated by both mythology and magic, and the opportunity to research magic through the lens of Greek mythology was intriguing. My last musical-"What Are Dreams Made Of?" also melded mythology, magic and music-and focused on the dream gods from Greek Mythology-Phobetor, Morpheus and Phantasos. This time, I wanted to learn everything I could about magic-and have Aoede struggle and grapple with her own beliefs. What is magic?
