L.J. Baker The most important advice I could give is don't give up. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't write your story your way. It doesn't matter if it's an agent, an editor, or a publisher. If you know your story should go a certain way, do it that way. I'm not saying don't take advice from professionals in the field, but they don't know your story the way you do. As long as you consider what people say, and are really sure, go ahead and break the rules. The gatekeepers of the industry can't keep you down any longer.
L.J. Baker The idea for my most recent book came from a dream. I fell asleep with this song playing in my head, which led to a dream about this vampire and a human girl dancing in a field. Somehow, that has turned into five books and counting. It played in my head for almost a year before I started writing it, so by then, I felt like I really knew the characters. Then it all just poured out.
L.J. Baker I don't really experience writer's block. I have some motivation issues, but the ideas never stop. As long as I can get my butt in front of the computer or iPad, the ideas flow. I guess I'm lucky in that.
L.J. Baker The best thing about being a writer is being able to say I love my job. I feel bad for people who say they hate their job, or they don't want to go to work. My job is amazing. I get to stay in my pajamas if I want. I can write from anywhere, my couch, my bed, my car, while I wait for a movie to start. It's a dream job.
L.J. Baker I'm currently working on a few projects. One is a vampire apocalypse series I've been doing for a couple years (on book 5 now) and the other big one is a series about the Devil finding his true love.
L.J. Baker I used to be able to answer this with "everything" The whole world inspired me to write, but since my daughter died, it seems that inspiration is harder to come by. I have to fight a little harder (ok, a lot harder) to pull from the creativity.
