I was inspired for the concept of Apocalypse: Diary of a Survivor from my great grandfather's WWI war diary. He had some harrowing experiences at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, but his journal of events is filled with humour and equal measures of epic war time experience - he was shot, gassed and hit by shrapnel - and mundane day-to-day existence. It is an amazing read.
I wanted to take that feel of a personal account of a global event and transpose it in an alternate contemporary, sci-fi apocalyptic setting.
