The idea for the one I'm working on now came from an old writing assignment I did for an online class. We were to plot a short story out about gleaners--the people who scavenge through old ruins to find things they can sell. I realized that the ruins of Saint Louis in my Mythic West universe would be perfect for some of that story, albeit with a more familiar main character. The rest is writing itself.

I usually have a novel and a short story going simultaneously. I switch stories when I'm blocked on one. Usually my subconscious figures out the block before I get hung up on the second.

This past year, I have been intentionally reading "new to me" authors. Most of them are acquaintances from conferences or writers recommended by friends. In 2022, I plan to circle back and read the sequels to several of these books, notably those by Ken Hoover, D.H. Dunn, and LJ Hachmeister.

Ghosthunter: The Spectres of Saint Louis. It's the sequel to Gunslinger. Beth and Wild Bill Hickok go to investigate ghosts who are killing people in the ruins of Saint Louis.
