Elliot was finally able to remove the debris gunk from his kitchen sink, but that's when the snake clamped down hard on his fingers, and slithered out of the drain along with his hand. He'd begun the hour trying to clean out the drain, but instead, the snake drained him clean within the hour.

Right now I'm reading "The Church That Forgot Christ" by Jimmy Breslin, and I'm also re-reading "On Writing" by Stephen King.

In 1997, someone took something from me without my knowledge, something he knew I wouldn't realize was missing until he was long gone. If this were a plot device, I might springboard from this event to his version of things, where once he's alone with his stolen treasure, a new misadventure takes over his life. A long series of misadventures, perhaps, such that he finally realizes they've all been related to his theft some 20 years earlier, causing him to return the stolen object to me in the year 2017.

I let myself fall into distraction at times, because I find my writing will soon enough become the distraction from the distractions again. I've also got a trick for writer's block: write nonsense until truth appears. Whether it's poetry or prose, try this exercise: 1) Type "Start time:" and "End time" on your document. 2) Wait for the next minute to arrive, and write the time next to the start time. 3) Write nonsense, stream of conscious stuff like "forward backward true and false turtles of the obtuse construction paper plumage referential wisdom undefined rat's ass development structure" and so on. 4) Once you feel you're done, write in the end time, and be done for the moment. Your result might teach you something, or it might not, but either way, you'll be that much more refreshed, and ready to write something real.

Write first and edit later. If you know you'll need help with the editing, worry about that later too. Just do the work of getting your thoughts out on the page RIGHT NOW. They're doing no good to anyone stuck in the recesses of that pretty little head of yours.

I'm currently working on my third novel, the last in my Heaven, Hell, and the Planet In Between series. I expect it to be finished and published in the spring of 2015. I also write a daily (yes, daily!) blog, all about living this 40th year of my life on Earth, and it's linked on my profile.

Energy and desire...I always love to write, but need coffee, alertness in general, and undefinable inspiration to help me too.

The Papal Visitor is a collection of my own thoughts and ideas merged and stemming from any number of cool sources. The Bible, Dan Brown's books, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and lots of other wonderful inspirations contributed to my "idea".
