You noted in your book 'Historic Inscriptions on the Western Emigrant Trails' that my 3XGreat Grandfather, Alvin Brown (A. B. Roberts) chiseled his name on Independence Rock. He did write several (11) journals of his trip to Oregon. He travels on the Oregon Trail in 1853, but I think you noted a different date by his name, can you tell me what year you saw?

Randy Brown Hi, just saw your question. (Obviously, I don't visit Goodreads too often.) Not much help from me. The only A. B. Roberts in the book is at the site Raft River in Idaho. I do remember seeing it and may have a photo of it somewhere, but I see I recorded "96" for the year. That's all I can add. Maybe I miss interpreted it or it's a different Roberts. I haven't heard of the 1853 Roberts diary. Is a copy available?
