While I have story ideas for the next several books mapped out, sales, unfortunately, haven't been good enough to warrant a sequel.

Funny, I don't think I need inspiration. I love writing. I have ideas that dance around my brain like fairies on speed, and I need to get them on paper where they want to be. So, I suppose that means I'm always inspired to write. Now, finding the time to write is another story...

I deal with writer's block in a couple different ways.
First (my preferred route), I'll take a break by going for a walk or sleeping on it. It's amazing how our brains work out plots even when we're not concentrating on them!
Second, if I'm up against a hard deadline, I'll plow through it. I'll force myself to write through it. Many times, as I write, things work themselves out. Sometimes, I have to do some rewrites once things work out. But, either way, I'll get to The End!

Read a lot and write a lot.
The writing part is pretty obvious. Like any trade, writing is a skill that must be honed to be successful. It wasn't until my sixth book that I really felt like I'd found my voice. And, as I work on my ninth book, I realize that I'm still honing my voice and skills.
As for reading, any writer must know what's out there. They should read the best, the worst, and everything in between. That way, they can better understand their own writing: what works and what doesn't. Besides, reading is fun and a great break!

The freedom. I love that I can take my ideas any direction I want. Sure, sometimes they don't work out and I have to do a ton of rewrites, but many times they do!

I'd been wanting to write a zombie series for...well, forever, but I just didn't have that spark of an idea that set it apart from other zombie books. Then one night, as I watched O, Brother, Where Art Thou, it hit me. Just as the movie is a creative retelling of Homer's Odyssey, Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy came to mind. I played around with the Inferno a bit, and I realized that zombies and the Divine Comedy were a perfect fit!
