Kristen S. Walker It depends a little on your taste (one of my series is epic fantasy, another is urban fantasy, and the third is steampunk), but I'm partial to Riwenne & the Mechanical Beasts because I've started writing it when I was 13 and after twenty years of working on it, I think it's the best book I've done yet!
Kristen S. Walker The Voyage of the Miscreation serial was inspired by Charles Darwin's scientific research expedition, The Voyage of the Beagle. I wanted to explore how the scientific method might have developed differently if early scholars had to deal with the unpredictability of magical creatures.
Kristen S. Walker Now that the YA Paranormal Fae of Calaveras trilogy is completed, I'm concentrating on my Epic Fantasy Wyld Magic series. Currently, I'm publishing a new episode of my serial every month, The Voyage of the Miscreation. I plan on writing a sequel to A Flight of Marewings in November for NaNoWriMo, working title "The Warrior Duchess."
Kristen S. Walker The best thing about being a writer for me is that I never feel bored. Even if I'm not writing a story at the time, I'm thinking about the next thing that I'm going to write, or daydreaming about my characters and what they might do in random situations, or coming up with new fantasy worlds and magical creatures. I ask myself "What if...?" and follow that train of thought down many paths.
Kristen S. Walker When I get blocked on a particular story, I brainstorm ideas by writing down every random thought I have in a "stream of consciousness" method. At first, a lot of the ideas may be silly. But once my creative muscles are flexing, the ideas start to flow, and eventually I come up with a new way of looking at the problem to solve it.
Kristen S. Walker The best advice I've gotten is to never stop writing. I practiced writing a lot of stories and kept journals for years before I finally thought that my writing was good enough to share with other people. Even if you don't think your writing is worth publishing or sharing, don't stop working on it. You learn to get better by practicing and always looking for ways to improve.
Kristen S. Walker I find inspiration everywhere. Most of all, I love to read, both fiction and nonfiction. I often get ideas for new stories when I read a story that I loved or I learn something new. I keep a list of story ideas so I never run out of new things to write about.
