I do something else for a while. I play with my son. Play some online games. I go clean something. I read something. I focus on something else, like another project, my research, or my courses. I have never been one who could power through writer's block. I just have to not think about it for a while. Sometimes, a while is a week. I usually find that my breaks come when I'm either driving or sitting in my office working on teacher stuff.

Dreams and music inspire me the most, but I have been inspired by people. Sometimes, I get inspired by something I read, like , "Ooh, that's neat, but it would be better (or more my speed) if..."

The best thing about being a writer is being able to share a story with other people. It gets even better if they love my story.

You will hear/read this many times but just keep writing. The only way to improve your voice and storytelling is to write as often as you can. Also, read as much as you can. Read critically. What does the author do that works? What doesn't work? When I read this way, I pick up on things that bother me, especially overused words, phrases, and descriptions.

I am editing book 5 and writing book 9 of the Camellia series. I am also querying an epic fantasy novel and an urban fantasy novel featuring necromancers.

I got the inspiration for the first book in my Camellia series from a dream about a rag-tag group of free humans trying to make it in a vampire-run society.
