When we were living in the Middle East, I came to grips with the reality that I was a raging alcoholic. I started writing about going "dry" in the desert to help to me cope. Before too long, I realized I was writing the story of my life. As a young woman I was addicted to the adrenaline and endorphins of swimming. When my career ended, I poured myself into another liquid altogether -- or, actually, I poured that liquid into myself! The truth has set me free.
