Constance Williams I often find that writer's block comes when I get too bogged down in what I should be doing - either the intricacies of world building, or the 'how do I get where I want to go' of plot structure. I get myself tied up in knots so much that my brain goes into shut down mode and I can't think of anything at all.

I have long since learned that the best thing to do is walk away for a while. Often literally. I'll go for a long walk, get some fresh air, or maybe head into the kitchen (I love to cook). I'll forgive myself from the guilt of abandoning my writing for a while, and just de-stress. Then, I'll come back at it with fresh eyes.

If that doesn't work, then I'll put aside what I was working on, start with a fresh sheet, and write. Doesn't matter what - could be a different part of the novel. Could be something entirely different. Doesn't matter if it's good - or even if it makes sense! Often the very action of words appearing on the page, or the screen, is enough to get rid of that block.
