I could no more answer this than decide on a single favorite movie, book, song, or food. So I'll toss out a few items to avoid giving a non-answer.
I get to create. I get to evoke reactions from people. I get the opportunity to wreak havoc on the impossible and twist and mangle the thing until it somehow becomes possible. I get to say I'm a writer at parties and actually back the claim up; it is honestly sooo gratifying to be able to do that.
That said, it's not for everyone, but everyone should at least try it.

By writing my previous books When the Zetas fill the skies and What better time than now. They're part of the same series as Thinkin' 'bout a brand new hope.
If I were to be any more detailed this would go on for a few hundred words and ain't nobody got time for that.

Do it.
I cannot stress enough how true that oversimplified advice is. Hell, I can't even begin to tell you how many writers would give that exact advice; I even kinda spoiled all of Stephen King's On Writing in those two words.
It's how you learn to do just about anything and it is by far the most surefire way to get any kind of good at it.

Usually by music. The Team Phobos Saga became a thing because I was listening to Exo-Politics by Muse and the line /When the Zetas fill the skies/ made me think of an alien entity completely surrounding Earth.
If not music, then the most random of things. I have the groundwork for a novel riffing on the rapture because a quote from Wayne's World popped into my head while Stairway to Heaven--see?! music again!--played on a co-worker's iPhone.
I don't question inspiration, I just write it down.

The third book in the Team Phobos Saga, Thinkin' 'bout a brand new hope.
Though if I'm not particularly 'feeling' it, I'll skip ahead to books four and five and do a bit of spec work for myself. If even that doesn't work, I'll fiddle with whatever other project I feel that I can properly add to.
