Melissa Grey Thank you for the kind words! I don't have any drawings of the Avicen but there's some fan art on Tumblr you can check out (I've reblogged what I could find so they're on my website). I'll be doing a few events in NY this year, but the only one I can talk about now is the joint launch party for The Shadow Hour and The King Slayer I'm throwing with Virginia Boecker. That'll be at Books of Wonder on July 12th. Once other events are finalized, I'll put them on my site (under About/Events).
Melissa Grey My brain. It had to bake for a while before it was ready to take out of the oven.
Melissa Grey Many of the places Echo visits in The Girl at Midnight are places I've been to myself and loved enough to put in the book. I haven't been to Thailand yet, but I would love to go at some point in the future (which is why I mention it in the book). Thank you for the kind words!
Melissa Grey I've written loads of unpublished short stories (and quite a bit of fan fic back in the day). I'd never actually finished a book before The Girl at Midnight but I had attempted two other novels before this one. I knew they were bad though and moved on once I realized that. Thanks for the kind words! Book 2 will be here before you know it.
Melissa Grey I don't know that I believe in the idea of pure talent. It's just writing and rewriting and rewriting and rewriting. I've never taken a creative writing course but I've been sort of workshopping my stuff in informal groups with friends for years. Glad you enjoyed TGaM!
Melissa Grey 1) There will be three books in the series. The second is called THE SHADOW HOUR and it comes out July 2016. The third and final book will be released summer 2017.

2) Yup, you will definitely see more of Echo's weird word collection in future books.

Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the book!
Melissa Grey Writing it was the easy part. I didn't have a book deal, so I had nothing to lose and just threw myself into putting in the work every day to write the best story I possibly could. And then I revised and revised and revised and revised until my brain could revise no more.

Promoting it was a whole 'nother bucket of chicken because it was my first rodeo and I mostly had no idea what the hell I was doing.
Melissa Grey It had like 87 titles before we settled on this one. I queried literary agents with it under the name FIREBIRD. It sold to Random House as FEATHERS AND FLAME. Then it became THE GIRL AT MIDNIGHT.
Melissa Grey Maybe! I'm still working on it so that wouldn't happen for a while.
Melissa Grey Not yet, but when I do find out, I'll be sure to add the dates to my website (and eventually GR once those book pages exist).
Melissa Grey Three! The second and third books come out in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
