Bea Davenport I have a YA novel that's complete in early draft but needs editing; I have a crime/suspense WIP that's in the very early stages of first writing and I am about a third of the way through a sequel to The Serpent House.
Bea Davenport From anything and everything! I think maybe because I used to be a journalist, I still see 'the story' in everyday life. I have notebooks full of ideas - I'll probably never get a chance to write them all.
Bea Davenport Definitely when readers contact you to say they've enjoyed the book. Nothing beats that!
Bea Davenport I don't get it very often - my main problem is finding time to write. But one thing I usually do is have two writing projects on the go. That way if I am not inspired to write for one of them, I usually am ready to write for the other.
Bea Davenport Don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough and keep going even if you get some rejections. Also remember that good writing doesn't come out perfect in the first drafts - it takes a lot of work to get it as good as it can be!
Bea Davenport I was a journalist during the 1980s when the miners' strike was running and I remember what a fraught and difficult time it was. Even those journalists like myself who supported the strike were seen as part of the 'other side' - understandably, of course. I wanted to write about the times and about something that is very loosely inspired by something I reported a long time ago.
