Leisl Leighton I don't get writer's block. I think it partially comes about because writers expect for perfection to flow out and onto the page, where the reality is it's more like word vomit in the first draft. I don't expect perfection when I write and I don't sit for long periods trying to find the right word or phrase to express what I want. If I can't find it quickly, I highlight and move on. Editing is where getting it right needs to happen, and given my brain is working differently when editing, it's more likely I will find what I need to make it work - and if I don't, that's where a good editor and Beta readers come in to help you get it right.
Leisl Leighton Diving into the worlds I create and becoming friends with the characters and falling in love with them. It makes my heart sing.
Leisl Leighton Write. It's as simple as that. Just write. If you want to write, make time and do it. Nothing is going to come of anything if you don't start by doing that. Secondly, be ready to learn constantly and to be open to criticism - because it will help you to be a better writer.
Leisl Leighton I am working on a few things. I'm working on the short novel for the A Perfectly Paranormal Christmas anthology that will be coming out later this year. I'm also re-editing my Pack Bound Series and am putting those out over the coming months in the lead-up to the new book in the series. I'm also working on a new romantic suspense novel and am trying to get back to my heart project - a paranormal-fantasy epic romance - that I've been working on for years in an effort to get it just right. I think I'm there but I just need to settle down and edit the damn thing!
Leisl Leighton I love reading and I love stories and so writing just comes naturally out of that. I read a lot and I watch a lot of movies and TV shows to soak in the stories they tell which makes me inspired to create my own. But also, writing is what I want to do, so I just do it, whether I am having a good day or a bad day. Mostly though, when I sit down at the computer to write and just get into it, everything starts to feel better.
Leisl Leighton It came to me in a dream - I just dreamed a scene from the book which ended up being the first chapter.
