Just write stuff. You grab a pen and paper, or a computer. Doesn't matter which. You write things down. You see where they lead and you follow them. Mistakes are inevitable… and a Good Thing. It's slow and it can be incredibly frustrating. But if you keep on keeping on, you wind up with a story.
Whether it's a good or a bad story doesn't matter. You're a writer because you've started writing stuff and you've kept going until you've finished it.

I know this is tempting providence, but although I've had moments (well days, actually) of utter bewilderment I don't think I've ever experienced real, crash-bang writer's block. In those moments of confusion, however, I try (a) not to panic and (b) to think back to where the problem has its origins (almost certainly not at the point where the the obstacle emerges)...
