Travis Hill Sorry for this very, very, VERY late answer. I do have a proper sequel planned eventually, called "Progeny."

However, a year or so ago, I started writing a sort of sequel set in the same universe, about 80 years after the end of "Ability." It's... unique in a way, and I'll be releasing some chapters here and there over the next few months, and I hope to knock it out once school is done for the semester (December 2019)!
Travis Hill One of the deepest, richest worlds I've ever read comes from Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" cantos. Far in the future, where AI control instantaneous travel and seek to create their own god, an Ultimate Intelligence, there's also a group of humans called "Ousters" who were exiled into deep space and have evolved far beyond what humans would recognize.

I'd likely join up with the Ousters to learn more of their history, as well as try to be a bridge between them and the humans of the Hegemony as they uncover the horrifying secrets of the AI and their quest to dominate humanity while creating their UI to battle the human God we are all familiar with.
Travis Hill Toni Morrison's "Song of Solomon"
Ann Bradstreet's various poems, including "Contemplations"
Benjamin Franklin's autobiography
Mary Rowlandson's biographical account of her captivity.
"Bird by Bird" by Ann Lamont
(most of these are for school, not a lot of leisure reading time!)
Travis Hill I woke to the sounds of children playing in the living room, their babbling and joyful voices making me pause for a moment as I listened through the closed door. The fear coursing through me after coming fully awake paralyzed me when I remembered that my children perished six years earlier in a devastating fire that began a never-ending spiral into a black hole of despair.
Travis Hill Originally, I hadn't planned on a sequel (as I'm a lover of short stories and novellas that sometimes leaves me wanting more). However, the nice lady who made the cover for Departure also made me a cover for Arrival. I'd put it on the back burner, figuring I had a free cover for down the road, but no real plans to do much more than another short story, possibly a short novelette.

About five months ago, I had a pretty good idea (it took me cracking my head open on a sharp cupboard door corner) for a "real" sequel to Departure, along with a pretty good set of story ideas about the terrible war.

The "concept" for Arrival is about six hand-written pages, which should translate into at least 60,000 words, though I'm thinking more like 120,000 as I have a lot to work with. The reason I haven't actually written it yet is because it isn't exactly a direct/pure sequel. So I've been trying to decide whether or not to alter Departure slightly (nothing too drastic) to make it fit Arrival, or if I should write the new story and call it a "spiritual successor."

I'm also a firm believer that there doesn't need to be a sequel, especially one that feels tacked-on or forced. However... there are far too many good ideas or storylines within Departure to not do... something... with it ;).

(I hope this babbling was coherent and not too creepy. Feel free to ask away about anything!)
