Sadly, a young girl was raped and murder in the town I live in by a stranger. When I saw her mom on the news, begging for justice for her daughter (the assailant hadn't been caught yet) I started to imagine the journey she would have to take to see justice . . . or revenge.

From reading and supporting other authors. Story ideas come easily for me, but writing a great story or novel is different from reading a great story or novel. I learn something new every time I read, either for pleasure or as a critique partner. One of the most important things I've learned is to welcome feedback, good and bad. No matter how long you've been writing or how much success you have, you can always improve your craft.

Murder in Mazatlan, the next book in my Mexico Mayhem series. I actually wrote this book in 2004, it was my first novel. But as I sure most of you know, learning to write a good story or book has quite the learning curve. So I when I didn't find a publishing deal (truly a Unicorn for writers) I focused on writing personal essays. I joined a writer's critique group. I read others works that I feel fit my writing style . . . then I focused on writing Peril in Paradise.

Write!!! Sometimes all it takes is a great title or a fantastic opening sentence to your first chapter. Or maybe it's a character that talks to you all the time. All you have to do is write!!!

I have always loved crafting stories and once I took a chance and wrote a personal essay for an anthology, which was published, I was hooked. I love creating fictional characters, places and events. Of course, the very best thing about being a writer is having someone read and enjoy your work!

I'm lucky because I rarely have writer's block. But when I'm not quite sure how to end a chapter or am unclear about a story thread, I go for a long walk or work in my flower gardens. These quiet, uncluttered tasks let my mind wander and usually by the time I'm done, I have my answer.
