If you write, you're a writer, so there is no reason to be an aspiring writer -- just write!
On the other hand, if you're interested in being a published author, that's a different story. My advice for those folks is to read widely but especially in the genre/type of writing you want to publish. I started reading The New Yorker when I was 14 years old, way before I was able to understand most of what they published. When I finally got the chance to submit there, in my early 40's, I had over 20 years of experience in their style which I am sure helped!
