Jennifer Bacia I heard the officer’s voice as if from far away . All dead... every single person I loved.
Jennifer Bacia In my non fiction book, Bestseller! I reiterate that all writing is practice for writing And you can’t edit what you haven’t written. That writing guide pulls together all I’ve learnt about the creative process over the years . I also pull apart and analyse how I created my first novel, Indecent Ambition (original title Shadows of Power). I thought it would help to see the actual process of a novel being put together brick by brick. I also discuss what didn’t work. It’s the sort of book I’d have wanted when I was starting to write - and was based on the Creative Writing course I was invited to start at Bond University. I was thrilled when after the course a number of my pupils were indeed published!
Jennifer Bacia Being able to live in wonderful worlds of ones own making, enjoying the challenge of writing suspense and creating strong women characters. I always say if I’m bored, my readers will be bored. So I keep at it, throwing out pages of work sometimes until I feel the wonderful magic key turn in the lock. and know THIS is the story that will gorge distance. I always have to explore issues that I find interesting to give me the passion to spend the hours alone that I do.
Jennifer Bacia I draw my inspiration from absolutely everywhere - history or current events,, people, travel, conversations. But my most recent book is my most personal. It’s set in the 60s when Australia was really changing. And a big part of that change was the arrival of immigrants from post war Europe. My mother was British and my dad was a Polish officer who couldn’t return to Poland after the war as it had fallen under rule from Moscow. When my parents came to Australia, dad spoke excellent English by then - to add to his 3 other languages! Therefore he was in a position to help others without his advantages. When various Polish arts companies toured Australia, my dad was contacted by ASIO in case he waa approached by possible defectors. As a result, I grew up against aEuropean background and had a huge interest in the Cold War. Eventually I even made sure I met Mikhail Gorbachev - another story! So I pulled elements of this background together where two Aussie young women have come toSydney looking for excitement and meet two debonair Europeans, each with their own secrets. Meanwhile I up the suspense with a series of murders on the Northern beaches of Sydney When tbe story fast forwards to the 80s, these long ago murders are being investigated by a major media program, and from ritzy Palm Beach to the surf clubs there are those who finally feel tempted to tell the truth. I promise a real page turner that will also leave readers knowing a bit more about those amazing times in Australia.
