Read, Read Read and that is not only fiction/books of authors you aspire to be like, but also all the vast swathes of information out there to help authors assert themselves. I also publish other people's books and get approached by so many authors expecting just to write the book and then have publisher/agent to promote it for them, and that by putting it on the book shelf it guarantees sales. The job of the author is like the single mum these days, you have to juggle it all, with a smile on your face, to get noticed. I blog a lot about this aspect of being an author as sadly only a handful in the world can simply get away with "just writing a novel" you have to also Sell, Sell, Sell your book and you!

A children's title called The Wizard of Old Leigh, a time travelling adventure for primary school age, of an odd character called Q who doesn't realise his own powers and cannot believe the children are from the future until they show him their Ipod, and then he disappears in panic leaving them stuck in 1913.

I am inspired by where I live and the people around me. I spent two years in Japan and most of my childhood free time in Ireland - both places have left a lasting effect on me. My next book is a children's book set in the town my own children are now growing up in, full of smuggling history and mythical locations. I am also staring my next book for adults set in the last 100 days of Hong Kong under British rule, again based on my own experiences but greatly embellished!
