To get over writer's block I do things that make me happy. I can be more relaxed and get into developing stories that way. I do realize that I experience writer's block most of the time when I am self-conscious about my work. Writing is very emotional for me. I'm just being honest here. I am a super hard critic of myself.

The idea for my last book, and all my books, came from the top of my head. I write about topics I have solid knowledge of, as far as interpersonal relationships, and go from there. As the ideas come, I run with them. That's it! And no, none of my books are about me or my relationships, but they may be about someone I know.
