I write from experiences in my life. The book most personal to me and the character most like me is Sadie from Sadie's Mountain.

The best thing for me about writing is that being able to work through my feelings while writing is extremely cathartic. I've had a tough life--no doubt about it. But those things made me stronger. I get to delve into my past in a new way through writing fiction, and I love that.

I have to be in the right mindset to write, so that might mean I'm writing in weird places: at my daughter's piano lessons, in the middle of the night, during the Superbowl party. I also have to be emotionally invested, and having a deadline really kicks me into gear.
