Steve Williams I had just pressed the elevator button for my apartment on the 52nd floor when a woman, her four-year-old son, and their two pit bulls got on. The dogs’ eyes gleamed as they got a whiff of the prime rib roast in my grocery bag, and as the door closed the boy pressed every button from 2 to 51.
Steve Williams The fifth in my series of Mitchell/Sandovan detective novels. I really painted myself into a corner with this one. It starts with four people dead around a dinner table. Murder? Lousy cooking? Accident? I had no idea how I was going to resolve it. But it's taking shape nicely.
Steve Williams Have idols. Try to rise to their level. Write a lot. And hire the best editor you can afford. Trust me, you need one.
Steve Williams The freedom. You can create characters, cities, galaxies, species, whatever you want.
Steve Williams I don't really believe in it. If you feel 'blocked,' just start writing a bit of dialogue between your main characters. Coax out 500 words or so, just to get in a groove. You may never use it, but think of it this way: you can always edit out something that doesn't fit, but you can't edit in something you haven't written.
