There's no such thing. Sometimes you don't feel inspired to write, so don't. If you've started the book, do some research - you can never do too much. Maybe plot where your characters are going to go next, using Google Earth. Check out if that gadget you just dreamed up, actually exists. Even in fiction, if things have a basis in reality, they can seem more realistic.

Making up alter-egos (i.e. characters) and making myself an alternative life (i.e. a book plot).

Write! And listen to advice - I thought I knew it all, which delayed my writing by a good few years. I should have listened.

Probably a sequel to Stan, but the problem i, I hate series and sequels, where the reader knows damned well that the hero will live. I'm going to make it a non-sequel - if that makes sense.

I just wait for inspiration to come. I have several ideas in the pipeline, so I'm bound to feel inspired by one.

Experience is the shortest answer. I tend to store up interesting situations and people, then when something clicks, off I go.
