Ellyn M. Baker The idea for The Cause:Love & War has been a book in my mind for decades. I only needed a place to set it. When I visited Gettysburg for the first time in 2010, I listened to the stories about the civillians and how much they gave to the war effort.
Normal everyday people like you and me living life the only way they knew how and suddenly they were invaded by war. It was a compelling story about human compassion. The people of Gettysburg did amazing things with almost nothing. I was inspired.
Ellyn M. Baker If I need inspiration I write in a journal of random thoughts. I usually find something in there to write about. Meditation is also my second go-to for inspiration. Quietly allowing your mind to wander works everytime.
Ellyn M. Baker New sequel to The Cause: Love & War. NaNoWriMo 2015 has been a great experience for me to allow myself to write without overthinking. I am currently looking for an agent and begining to move my career forward.
Ellyn M. Baker Read and find yourself an encouraging writers group. Books teach us how to write. Other authors help shape our own writing voice. Reading gives writers new springboards to new ideas.
Writers groups help you see the forest for the trees. Learn to take good critiques, be open to change and embrace new ideas. Not every idea will work for you, but some ideas will spark new creative avenues for you to try. Never stop learning about your craft.
Ellyn M. Baker I love meeting new writers. We were all in their shoes once. Encouraging others to take time to write the book they always wanted to write, makes me smile every single time. Someone did that for me and I am so blessed they took the time to encourage me. I will never forget it.
Ellyn M. Baker Begin writing a journal. Just a book of random thoughts and free writing. In order to combat writers block you have to write. If you are working on a project, you may need to put it away for awhile to allow your subconcious work on it for awhile. Set time aside to write, set your confidence level to fearless and put pen to paper!
