Sherry Joyce I'd be off in the hobbit world living in one of those adorable shrunken residences that wouldn't require much cleaning or maintenance. To me, it would be downsizing to the max limit. I'd still snuggle up with a good book in a tiny, comfy chair and read.
Sherry Joyce I watched the hairy, long-legged spider crossing the ceiling above my bed, assuring myself the creature had suction cups on its legs in order to travel so slowly, yet purposely determined while upside down. Then, a blood-curdling mouth closed scream, as it fell from the ceiling, landing on my face.
Sherry Joyce Too many, but reading is a passion: The Zookeeper's Wife; Killing The Rising Sun, The Woman in Cabin 10, Option B, Into the Water, Madam of my Heart, too many good books, too little time to work on the craft of writing my own novels, but there is so much good reading out there. Oh, and Hamilton...in my spare time, a must read.
Sherry Joyce Scarlett and Rhett :) He loved her despite her infatuation with Ashley, who loved Melanie, and the lifetime it took Scarlett to realize she did love Rhett. Who couldn't love Rhett carrying Scarlett up those stairs to the bedroom and the smile on her face the next day? I admired Scarlett's determination to never go hungry again, the entire saga of the South.
Sherry Joyce One of the best things about being a writer is having the opportunity to meet readers who enjoy romantic suspense/mystery novels, and to meet other authors who write in those genres. It's been exceptionally enriching to speak at various author events, be on a panel at Left Coast Crime in Monterey this year, and to moderate a panel, Mystery/Mayhem/Suspense in Placerville this past month. It's a great deal of fun to speak at libraries, philanthropic events, book clubs and writer's clubs. It's like a flower that keeps opening with new experiences. Meeting other writers has made me want to work harder to improve my craft and support other debut authors. Now, as an author, reading books is now completely different, and in many ways, so much more enjoyable.
Sherry Joyce I don't generally get writer's block, however I don't write when I am overly tired, overwhelmed by life's demands, but instead wait for clean blocks of time where I can concentrate. I write better when I am rested and enthusiastic.
Sherry Joyce Another romantic suspense novel based in St. Paul-de-Vence, France and Tribeca, New York. As an artist, my first love has always been drawing and painting. The work of Chagall and Matisse drew me back to St. Paul as a favored vacation destination where I purchased a painting, now hanging in our family room.

Many of you have asked if I will write a series for Brett and Cherise. The answer is yes, but for now, they need a well-deserved rest and a happy marriage before becoming involved in another murder.
Sherry Joyce While writing postcards in the turret of a 4th story tower in a castle, it was struck by lightning, giving me quite a jolt. That evening a horrific storm came up the Dordogne, rattling the windows with Mistral gusts of wine, and bolts of lightning. Unable to sleep, I began writing the murder mystery in my head, which became THE DORDOGNE DECEPTION.
Sherry Joyce My husband and I rented a 30,000 sq. ft. castle in the Dordogne region of France, for a big "0" birthday party, and invited our family and friends (all accepted) if they could get there, we offered them a free place to stay. It was a week of heady delight, rambling around the entire castle while the owner left for Bordeaux and Spain, leaving us the keys to enjoy ourselves.
Sherry Joyce It's a journey and a process. Don't be too hard on yourself and expect to write a Pulitzer or best-selling novel the first time out, or even after that. Instead find a team you can trust to help you with your writing, editing and even critique groups or early readers. If you begin to hear the same advice several times, consider the merits of what they are saying. However, if you write for yourself, listen to your own voice and follow your dream. Like anything else, you will get better at all aspects of writing simply by writing more. Practice does not always make "perfect", but it will make you a better writer.
