Laura A. Lord When my husband and I were preparing to move my uncle into a nursing home, we sat around with piles of his clothing and wrote his name in black Sharpie on all the tags. It struck me that one day my children would probably be doing the same thing for me. They'd be sitting around, scrawling my name into my underwear. I suddenly wanted to picture myself older. I wanted to talk about where I came from and all the different kinds of people in my area. I wanted to talk about hometowns and growing up, and aging. I wanted to imagine myself at the other end of the spectrum.
Laura A. Lord People. I love writing about people. I love writing about people as if I were them. It's like trying on a new pair of shoes.
Laura A. Lord I step away from what I'm working on and do something, anything else. That's part of the reason I keep so many different projects going. I always have something fresh to go to.
Laura A. Lord I have a voice. A loud voice. That isn't part of my personality otherwise.
Laura A. Lord The same old, same old they have probably heard a million times: read a lot, and write more.
Laura A. Lord I'm currently in the middle of my book launch for Of Roots and Wreckage! However, I'm also toying around with another manuscript. I have to keep myself busy with new projects.
