Hey, I grew up in a Kitt 8X35 mobile home in trailer camps in Colorado and Northern California and I borrow people liberally from my own past. You seem to capture the "white trash" mentality perfectly in some of your characters, particularly Percy in "Route 12." Are these very true to life characters based in part on people you knew growing up or do you come up with them right off the top of your head?

Marietta Miles Hey William! Definitely from memory. I grew up in Louisiana, Alabama and Virginia. The south has her share of trailer parks. No doubt. Plus I was a military brat. Lots of interesting characters to pull from. I might mix and match characteristics, sort of a redneck stew. These kooky types were all over.
We knew a guy named Little Rusty. He was a bull rider and he only ate hush puppies. He lived in a trailer right next to the base. He and the enlisted were all buddies. He was always getting arrested for sneaking into the officer's pool and swimming naked. That guy could fill a book. It feels like my mind is filled with those crazy folks.

What are you currently working on?

Marietta Miles Story set in the 1970's, focusing on a handful of people trapped during a hurricane. Different personalities crashing into each other. Right now images from 1970's disaster movies are rolling through my brain. Kinda fun.
